Útvar Rychlého Nasazení (U.R.N.) is the Elite Police of the Czech Republic. They were first modeled after the British SAS, and train with most European Elite Units, as well as Delta Force from the US, Israels Yamam, and Vega and Alpha group from Russia.

In order to join the U.R.N. Unit, one must be at least 23 years old and have spent 5 years in police uniform already. They mainly are trained for counter-terrorism, organized crime, and are involved in major conflicts all around the globe. URN is considered to be one of the most advanced units in the world and is part of the European Atlas Network. On a regular basis, they conduct training with other European Units, as well as International Units. Lots of candidates apply every year to become a URN Operator. However, sometimes only one or two new members are added to the unit, sometimes none. 10% of candidates become operators.

Physical Testing takes place in a 4-hour window. The obstacle course consists of 9 different stations. That entails running, climbing, and jumping. The pool where the swimming is performed is a 25-meter pool. The pushups are to be performed within 1 minute, the sit-ups within 2 minutes. The rope climb is for 4.5 meters. It is to say, those standards considered passing grade are only passing grades. One should aim to smash the physical fitness test. The physical prerequisites are to be maintained by each member. Furthermore, as this is part of Phase 1 Testing, candidates will be examined further in a 6-8 hour session, where they have to showcase their ability to handle stress and their ability to work as a team.

The second phase for URN lasts about a week and consists of a lot of orienteering throughout the day and throughout the night. Candidates won't get lots of sleep, won't get lots of food, and still have to function during this stressful week. The candidates must prove their motivation, physical endurance, and their ability to cope with hard tasks and take the right decisions. Candidates' fear of heights will be tested. The candidates will be tied to a rope that swings under the bridge, similar to a bungee jump, giving the candidates a clear thought on whether to continue with the selection process or leave. The candidates will be punished with tons of squats until they are mentally and physically drained. A backpack of 15KG (33lbs) is to be carried at all times throughout the selection process. Doctors continously monitor the candidates throuhgout this phase. This phase is followed by the third phase, which is the Interview Phase. The candidates will be put in front of an interview panel. Questions consist of understanding the motivation behind why the candidate wants to become a URN Operator and personal questions also.

Attributes of an URN Operator:

URN Operators are considered to be quite professionals. Their level of Intelligence is considered average to above average. Operators need to have the ability to learn, and also solve problems under stress. They have to be ambitious, flexible, and adaptable. A candidate needs to carry himself with a certain level of maturity. This means the ability to avoid impulsivity and carry a certain inner discipline, without naivety and exaggeration. Operators, and of course, the candidates need to always want to work on themselves, want to finish the work that they have started, and know their limitations as well. He needs to be able to focus on the task ahead, show courage, and carry controlled aggression in him. URN Operators need to be emotionally stable. They need to be able to withstand criticism but need to also be able to show feelings at the same time. Operators need to always behave with a sense of justice, ethically, morally, with honesty, integrity, and a positive attitude towards work.
