P.F.T. Fuerza de Guerra Naval Especial de España

F.G.N.E, Fuerza de Guerra Naval Especial, is a Spanish special force unit specialized in hostage rescue, ship assault, and counter-terrorism. They perform sabotage attacks, reconnaissance, and surveillance and maritime operations. They stay in the shadows as much as possible.

Only 20-40 % will make it into the unit. However, it is to note, that there have been training classes, where no one made it through.


To join, one must be a Spanish Citizen and come from the Spanish Marines and Navy.

Pre-Selection F.G.N.E. España

Pre-Selection happens consists of the physical test listed, a psychological test, medical tests, and a personal interview. The max time for sit-ups is 2 minutes. Pullups, Dips are not timed. The pre-selection phase is followed with the EMMOE Course (Escuela Militar de Montaña y Operaciones Especiales)

Selection Phase F.G.N.E.

Selection Phase for officers and NCOs last 14 months. The regular selection lasts 9 months. They must undergo multiple ruck marches, survival exercises in nature, with few hours of sleep, and minimal rations of food. They have to learn and adapt to extreme situations. They have to be dedicated to the process and show the ability to perform efficiently under sleep and food deprivation. They will ruck with weights up to 50kg at times. Candidates will be exposed to all types of weather conditions, from 40 degrees to 10 below zero degrees celsius. They train in the snow, in the mountains, at sea ad in the desert.

Specialized FGNE Training

They will have to master advanced sky diving techniques, advanced diving, and have to prove themself to be able to master advanced driving combat vehicle techniques. The candidate will go through first aid training, communication training, advanced shooting training, and language school. They also go through a 16 weeks advanced combat diving phase. Certain exercises are swimming with feet and hands tied, high-water entry from 10 meters, tying knots underwater, very similar to navy seals training. They will also go through SERE School as most special forces in the world are.

F.G.N.E. Operators - España

Once candidates are fully-fledged Operators, they further specialize and keep their training very intense. They train daily in combat, insertion, and various scenario missions. They train with speed boats and perform fast-ropes from helicopters. They go through Sniper schooling and will continue to perform various ruck marches through various terrain. They also train with other special operation units, such as MOE and EZAPAC. They also are deployed to train other units from all around the world and act as consultants for their training to other allied forces

The FGNE Operators are known to be top-notch. The Unit wants candidates who recognize their mistakes, accept and improve in that respective area. They want candidates that are willing to be better every day, who are honest, love, and sacrifice for Spain and are loyal to the Unit. To make it into the unit, one must also be very disciplined, have mental endurance, and will power to make it through Selection, and the candidate has to be and remain humble.

F.G.N.E. Facts

They train with U.S. Navy Seals, with the Polnisch JW Formoza, MARSOC of the Netherlands, DAE of Portugal, and SFF of Belgium. They live by the mantra that they never compare themselves with other special units, but that they exchange and learn from each other. Another motto is: The hardest thing is not getting into the unit, but staying in it.
