La Policia National de España is a very strong police force in Spain. They have different units, covering different parts and areas of work in Spain. Their counterparts are the Civil Guard and the Spanish Gendarmerie. They are mainly tasked with the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and illegal immigration. For highly specialized tasks and duties, this country has the units G.E.O. and U.E.I. The history of the National Police dates back to 1824, during the reign of Fernando the 7th.

The Fitness Test of the Spanish police is very interesting. Every country has its similarities in terms of requirements for its different units. In this country, 50-meter sprints are very prevalent. To join, one must be at least 18 years old, have a clean record, have a driver's license, and be a Spanish citizen or resident.

Once you have taken this test, you will go through police academy training in Avila Police Academy, which lasts 9 months. Here the candidate will be trained in Spanish Law, Weapon Mastery, and Self-Defense. Furthermore, they will go through various internships in different departments. To get into the academy is very difficult due to the volume of applicants. They usually have more than 40k of applicants a year. Out of the 40k aspirants, only about 2500 will be chosen for the physical examination. You might also get tested for doping during your stay.

Spanish Police Formation:

The Escuela Nacional de Policia is a police complex covering 2200 square meters. There are classrooms, laboratories, shooting fields, sports facilities, living areas, residencies for students and teachers, and more. The outdoor sports area is huge. You have outdoor tracks, soccer fields, an area for discus, javelin and hammer throws, 2 basketball courts, 3 volleyball fields, 2 handball fields, and 4 tennis courts. There is also an Auditorium and a swimming pool. They even have saunas. Usually, recruits wake up at 7 AM. Their classes begin at 8:30 AM.

Police Academy Rules in Spain

- Usage of Phones are prohibited outside of the living area
- The Room has to remain clean at all times
- Food and Drinks are prohibited in the living area.
- Mandatory short hair cut style for men. Women with long hair need to wear blue hair bows.
- Mandatory upright posture and recruits are prohibited to put their hands in their pocket.

Different Police Units in Spain

In Spain, various regions are policed by various units. There are military police units such as the Guardia Civil, the Mossos d'Esquadra in Catalonia, the Urban guard police (Policia Local or Policía Municipal), the Ertzaintza in the Basque Country, and the Policía Foral (Foruzaingoa). There is also BESCAM in Madrid.
