To start your journey as a police officer in Germany, you need to go through a demanding physical fitness test in Germany. Every city has its variation in its physical demands. I have recreated an entry test including the most common exercises performed. I made sure to use the best times for the test.

Polizei Germany Workout

Every state has its requirements. For example, some states want you to run a cooper test. The Police in Niedersachsen is doing the 5000-meter run and I thought it will be good to be implemented in this test, as a cop should be able to run 5000 meters without any issue. The police in Bavaria implemented a sit-up version, where you lock your legs into a sit-up machine. Those sit-ups are not timed. They also require a machine benchpress to be performed. Some states want you to go through either a circuit training or parkour. In the future, I will implement such a test as well. Possible variations could include also a Kasten-Bumerang Test, as you can find on this page in the german firefighter challenge. The triple jump is performed on each leg.

Police Formation in Germany

The formation usually lasts in variation about 2 to 3 years. There is a difference between "mittlere Dienst", which can be considered the formation of a regular cop, compared to the "gehobenen" Dienst", which is the formation for police commissioners. The schooling is broken down into 2 pieces. One piece is the theory part, which is about the legal aspects of police work, psychology, and criminology. The other part of the schooling is practical training for tasks on the job. Throughout the formation, Recruits are exercising very regularly as they have to stay in top shape. They are trained in self-defense, first aid, and weapons training. They also go through driving school. Another important aspect is teambuilding. Police are trained to work in a team.

Police & Sports in Germany

The police forces have 84 hours a year reserved for Sports Activities. This is about 1.6 hours per week. The breakdown of those 84 hours is as follows. 46.5 hours - Situational and Deployment Training, 30 hours of pure sport, and 7.5 hours of shooting. This is the official requirements set for every officer after formation. The police officer usually practices other activities off the clock to make sure to stay ready for any situation. Every officer will be tested yearly. They are required to pass partial requirements of the German Sportabzeichen. They have to either perform a 100-meter sprint, a 12 min cooper test, or a 1000 meter swim.
