Murphy Challenge

Lt. Michael Murphy, Medal of Honor holder, is and was a Navy Seal, who died in combat in Afghanistan in 2005 in operation Red Wing. He graduated from Penn State with Honors in 1998 and graduated from Buds in 2001. Murphy used to perform a special kind of workout regularly, which he called Body Armor. To perform this test, one must use a 25 lbs weighted west.

In Crossfit, this challenge has become very popular. It should not be forgotten that the Murph Challenge is more than just a challenge, it's a memory to this man full of honor and also to the other men who lost their lives during this mission. A book was published about his life called Seal of Honor.

Mike Murphy Workout

To pass this challenge, you will start with a 1-mile run, which will be followed with a mix of pullups, pushups, and air squats; and finished with a 1-mile run. Don't forget the challenge is only real if you use a 25 lbs weighted vest. Not sure if LT. Michael Murphy knocked out the pull-ups first, before even moving to the next exercise or if he mixed it up. To have a gold score, you should aim to finish the whole test under 30 min. To pass you need to be able to finish it under 60 minutes.

Mike Murphy Seal Training

Before Mike Murphy went to B.U.D.S. Navy Seal Training, he was able to pass the Physical Screening test in flying colors. He was able to swim 500 yards in under 8 minutes, perform more than 100 pushups and more than 80 situps within 2 minutes of each exercise, perform more than 20 pullups and run 1.5 miles within 9 minutes. He used to be involved in different sports, such as soccer, hockey, football, baseball, and more.

Michael Murphy is known to have had a flawless character. He was always supportive of others, protecting others, even when he was a child. He was determined, self-motivated, and focussed, knowing exactly what he wanted to do in his life. He could have been a lawyer, yet he chooses to become a Navy Seal Officer. He was not afraid of anything that was put in front of him. He was also known to have been exemplary kind, respectful, and attentive to details. Furthermore, he had a humble heart, not bragging about his smartness, nor making anyone feel little next to him. Mike Murphy was also known to have a relentless training character. He would train so hard, that he would puke, and instead of stopping or slowing down at that point, he would continue his training.

Michael Murphy received 11 medals, including the "Medal Of Honor" and the "Purple Heart". Also, several locations, buildings, and awards are named after him, such as the USS Michael Murphy Ship, the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Combat Training Pool, and the Michael Murphy Geospatial-Intelligence Award. Besides the book Seal of honor, a Documentary Named Murph - the protector was also released.
