The term Feuerwehr stands for the fire department of Germany. Every City has its own Fire Department. A Firefighting fitness badge is available for the fittest.

To start your journey as a firefighter in Germany, you need to go through demanding physical fitness tests in Germany. Every city has its variation in its physical demands. However, I have recreated the entry tests including the most common exercises performed and I made sure to use the best times I could find for the test. Therefore, if you are in Germany and you consider to become a firefighter, your test will not be as challenging as the one you find on this page. However, with this one, you will surely pass the entry test.


The Oath that a Firefighter has to take is the same as the oath for the military and the police

Feuerwehr Deutschland Workout

This pre-test involves 13 different exercises, which have to be completed in the listed order. The events start first in the gym. Some units demand the candidate to perform inverted flexed hangs, some demand chin-ups. The side jumps are usually done over a small object or a low hanging cord. The pushups are beep pushups. Every 2 seconds 1 pushup is performed until failure. The balance test is ought to be performed on a high raised platform. The candidate will walk from one side to the other without falling. A bag has to be transported from one side to the other. The CKCU test is an exercise to test the candidate's core strength. The candidate will start in a plank pushup position, and then tap with his hand to the right and then to the leftover a mark. The Kasten Bumerang Event is a small obstacle course. Candidates will then climb a fire ladder. If they fail to climb, give up, or return, they out of pre-selection. Candidates then have to pull a dummy weighing 175 lbs around cones in a suicide drill. Candidates go to the track then and have to run a 3 K and then sprint 100 meters. The test further continues in the swimming pool. Candidates will Swim 200 meters and then underwater swim 15 meters.

Some of the names of the events are kept in German because there is no real translation for the exercise. Again I want to emphasize that this is an all-round German Firefighter test. If you decide to become a firefighter in Germany, if you can pass this test, you will surely pass any test in any German city. This test is a compilation of different tests. In case you are out of shape. Start working on single parts of this challenge and work them down through the week. Then later during your progress, you will try to get everything done in one day. Another way is to get the test done in 16 hours and not worry too much about the time. Over time you will try to pass the minimum requirements.

German Feuerwehr Formation

The formation to become a Firefighter is about 3 years long. The formation is usually broken into two pieces. The first 19 months focus on the technical aspects of the job. The second part focuses on Basic fire-fighting training and medical emergency training.

Sport & German Feuerwehr

Sport is a must for Every German Firefighter and helps to be able to handle the stress that the job brings with it. The Firefighter who wants to work on the job until their age has to stay in shape by conducting intensive sport daily. During Basic Training, aspiring Firefighters have to partake obligatory sports sessions ranging from Badmington, Soccer, Gymnastics to Basketball, and other sports.


Most Firefighters take part in extra sports activities as well. Those usually range from Running to Swimming, Judo to Handball and Volleyball. They usually do that to make sure that they are in tip-top shape to be able to handle the job to the best of their abilities.
