Col Moschin Test Sportivo

Col Moschin, which is the nickname for the 9th Paratroopers Assault Regiment, is one of the special forces units of the Italian Army. They are trained to be able to fight in all sorts of environments and are tasked with Unconventional Warfare, Counter-Terrorism, Special Reconnaissance, and so forth. Technically they have their origins in World War 1. There was a unit called the 9th Assault Section that resembled Col Moschin. Other Italian Special Force units are COMSUBIN of the Navy, ARDA of the Air Force, and GIS.

To join, one must be of Italian Citizenship and either or already enrolled in the Italian Army or having passed the selection process of the Italian Army.


The physical requirements, "Requisiti fisici" are outlined below. They are the pre-selection requirements that will get the aspirant into the door of the first training phase.

Pre-Selection Phase R.A.P.
The Pre-Selection test starts with a timed dress into military attire from street clothes. The candidates will perform most tests in military attire. The test then involves 7 different exercises, which will be performed in the listed order. The max time for pullups, pushups, dips, and the abs exercise is 1 min. The time for the Rope Climb is capped at 1:45 min. There is only a small break time in between each exercise. Other Testing in 1st Phase of Selection: Fast march of 7K in 45 minutes, a 10K March with a 10KG backpack in 72 minutes, a 15-meter distance dive, 12 min treading water in combat uniform without shoes and a 50-meter swim in 2:15 min.

Selection Phase - Col Moschin

Those who successfully pass the pre-selection phase, are invited to the second phase of the selection process, which increases in intensity. Lots of candidates will fail. More testing will be done during this phase. Candidates will be tested in terms of overcoming fear and proving courage in different situations. Candidates will perform various Ruck Marches with 20kg through rough terrains with different altitudes. Those Rucks are 10km in 1h 16 min; 15km in 2h and 10 min; 21km in 3h and 15 min; 30km in 4h 28 min and a night ruck. The few who make it will go into the OBOS Course and the Fune di Vincolo Course.

OBOS Course - Col Moschin

Before the OBOS Course, which stands for Operatore Basico Operazioni Speciali, (Basic Special Operations Operator Training Course) candidates go through parachuting school which lasts 4 weeks. They then enter the OBOS Course, which varies in length and could be between 10 and 15 weeks. Candidates will learn basic survival skills for operations in a hostile environment. The main topics covered include topography, day and night orienteering, and navigation techniques, individual combat training, first aid training, and endless hours of days on the shooting range. This phase represents an important Selection Phase as it will wash out lots of candidates. Furthermore, the candidates have to also pass a written test. At the end of this phase, candidates will be tested with a final exercise, combining all the learned elements.

Specialized Course - Col Moschin

The Specialized Course, which can last up to 57 weeks, adjusts to new techniques learned and combat environment adaptation. Candidates, who have shown deficiencies in certain areas from the OBOS Course, need to catch up and the training will become even more specific. Candidates will learn how to fast-rope from helicopters, go through a two week SERE School, (Survival, evasion, Resistance, and Escape) and learn Special Reconnaissance, explosives training and go through combat in urban environment training. They will also go through 6 weeks of Ski Training, 6 weeks of mountaineering, 6 weeks of diving, and 4 weeks of language school. Only 1 out of 10 Candidates, who initially started the course, will become Col Moschin Operators. The Operators will go through more testings and continuous training.
