Pre-Selection NORSOF Fitness Test

The Norwegian Special Operation Forces, called N.O.R.S.O.F., which includes the M.J.K. and the F.S.K., is the special forces department of Norway. They are trained for several different situations such as hostage-rescue, counter-terrorism, and special reconnaissance.

Their physical fitness tests determine what Niveau you are. The level goes from 0 to 5. 5 is considered a soldier in excellent conditions. There is no age limit for candidates. They need to be very healthy and have or be able to obtain a security clearance. They do not have to come from the military ranks.

Pre-Selection NORSOF

This test involves 5 different exercises spread onto 3 days. The exercises have to be completed in the listed order. The max time for pushups and sit-ups is 2 minutes. Women do not have a different standard to make it into the Forsvarets Spesialkommando. The March at the end is a 30 KM Ruck March with 25 KG. It is to advise, that a candidate, to leave a good impression and enhance his chances to get to the selection, should aim for way higher numbers than the passing requirements.

Selection NORSOF

The selection for NORSOF is extremely secret. Only little bits of information have been revealed in the past. SOF Selection consists of sleep deprivation and food deprivation. It lasts 3 weeks and tests the candidate's mental and physical abilities. Only a small number of candidates will make it through this phase. Candidates who do not make it through Selection can retest one more time in the future. The Selection consists of many land navigation marches.

Specialized Training - NORSOF

Even during basic training for NORSOF, some candidates are not making it through. This phase lasts about 10 months, stars in August, and finishes the next year in June. Candidates become survivalists, shooting experts, navigation specialists, and learn how to parachute. The candidates will be constantly challenged, wet, tired, hungry, and cold. They will learn how to maneuver as a 6 man team.

At the end of this phase, to be considered a full-fledged NORSOF (FSK) Operator, one will further be specialized. They can become snipers, medics, and other special functions.

FSK Characteristics

The FSK requires soldiers who are physically and mentally robust, have strong willpower, good learning ability, and who can work independently and in teams. They say "You have to be able to perform even if you have a bad day. You need to be able to tackle challenges with uncertainty. You need to be able to withstand discomfort over time."

NORSOF Facts & Information

The Government of Norway does not comment on any operations that FSK is involved in. Therefore little or no knowledge is available about the missions that they are involved in.
