Besides the physical fitness test listed here, candidates will also have to prove over and over again, that there are team players and able to integrate a team. They will undergo various mental and medical evaluations throughout pre-selection, which then turns into PMPFS (Préparation Militaire Parachutiste Force Spéciale). The candidates are here evaluated during various obstacle courses, physical training, shooting proficiency, ruck runs, exposure to cold. They also face a lot of rock climbing through this stage. This helps the staff to see which recruits have a real chance to make it through Selection, and which do not. This test listed here is a modified version incorporating various aspects of pre-selection training.

During Training, especially once the Selection is accomplished, candidates will be trained in C4 - Corps a Corps Combat. Every 1er RPIMA - SAS soldier is trained in hand to hand combat, whether with weapons or without. Most units in the 1er RPIMA only need their candidates to have passed Niveau I of Commando Training. However, some units and some positions require Niveau II, which is considered to be even tougher and for leading positions. Candidates and operators spend a lot of time in a "fake city", where they train for their missions. In this 6500 square km city, unique to European countries, there are fake houses, and fake buildings, all built to withstand live-fire drills and train the soldier to the best of their abilities. They also train with Navy Seals, Delta Force, Green Berets, and British SAS Operators at times.
