Physical Fitness Test Naval Fusiliers

Fusilier Marins, Naval Fusiliers (ENG) are part of the French Navy. They are trained for combat on land and in coastal regions. In combination with the Commando Marine, which includes the Commando Hubert, they form "FORFUSCO" (Force Maritime des Fusiliers Marins et Commando). They can be compared to the U.S. Marines or the British Royal Marines. The aspirant usually signs up for 10 years and has to be a French citizen. The selection course is tremendously difficult.

Way to the Fusilier Marins:

To become a "Fusilier Marins", one must go through various schools, such as "École de maistrance" where general training is offered. They then have to go through the physical fitness testing, whereas some recruits will not make the cut.

Physical Requirements Fusilier Marins

This test involves 8 different exercises, which have to be completed in the listed order. The Vameval Test is to measure your VO2 Max, similar to a Beep Test. The 4000 Meter run has to be done with an 11 KG Backpack and is not counted against the candidate, even if they do not finish it in time. The Rope Climb is done by using the hands and legs. There is no time limit on the 200-meter swim.

Fusilier Marins Formation

After the physical fitness test is passed, the candidates will go through specialized training. They go into the Naval School in Lorient, France. The training there lasts 20 weeks. Here the candidates go through lots of physical fitness training, such as rucking, swimming, calisthenics, and so on. They can further decide to specialize in K9 handler, Sniper, Parachutist, or Commando Marine. They will sign a 10-year contract to stay with this prestigious unit.
