Jednostka Wojskowa Grom Fitness Test

JW Grom, Jednostka Wojskowa Grom is a special force military unit in Poland. Grom stands for: Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego, which means Operational and Maneuvering Response Group. They are internationally known and were present in various areas around the world.

To join one must be a Polish Citizen. Usually, the chance for a candidate to be selected for the physical fitness test, they can increase their chances by being multilingual or having acquired higher or secondary education. One can be a civilian or an enlisted soldier. One must either have already received security clearance or be able to test for it. One must be under 30 years of age. The physical requirements can be attempted by anyone only 2 times. Only 10% of candidates will make it through Selection.

Previous Physical Requirements for JW Grom differed a lot. Candidates used to have to be able to perform a 50 meter underwater swim, instead of the now required 25 meters. The swim stroke technique should be freestyle. They are time limitations on a couple of events. The Sit-Ups are performed within 2 minutes. The rope climb is about 6 meters and has to be performed within a certain time frame as well. The Med Ball Squats are performed within 1 minute. During the last exercise, the wall jump, the candidate has to throw the 4KG medicine ball over the 1.5-meter wall and hop after. He has to perform 22 reps in 1 min. Candidates who cannot perform the minimum requirements, should not apply. It is also to note that just because you can pass the requirements, you also cannot be the weakest candidate. JW Grom wants the best candidates, who want to be there and who put their heart into every event.


The candidates then will under psychological testing, which can break some of the candidates. It can take up to a couple of hours. The candidates who are still standing will face up in the ring with JW-Grom Operators.

JW Grom - Evaluation Week

The same place where aspirants of JW Formoza are performing their evaluation week is also the place for JW Grom. Candidates will carry their 20 KG Ruck everywhere. The day usually starts at 5 AM. They perform various exercises such as orienteering, countless hours of marching, and countless hours of calisthenics and running. Some people will lose over 7 KG within those 6 days. Candidates will only eat military rations and soup, provided by the staff.

Those candidates who made it through the initial selection will now be tested even further. They will be trained to extreme fatigue, having to answer random questions from the staff, which they have to answer correctly to show their mental capabilities and mental toughness. In the extreme state of fatigue, they also will spend hours shooting on the shooting range, shooting while driving, and shooting during live field tests. Doctors on staff purposely malnutrition the candidates to see, which candidates don't break and still make it through selection while facing all endurance marches and while going through the maybe toughest SERE school in the world. Here candidates will not receive food, nor water, nor sleep. Here they will be exposed to ice water, pepper spray, and taser shocks. Doctors will pull candidates from the course if they see that the recruit might endure hardship, beyond reasonable where they would not recover from. JW Grom candidates will be pushed through various training phases that consists of green phase (orienteering, marching, etc..) blue phase (patrol, diving, swimming, etc..) and black phase (terrorism fighting in an urban environment, CQC, etc...). Candidates will burn 5000 calories a day during Selection.

An optimal candidate does not need to be the most athletic candidate if he doesn't come with the right mindset and the right heart. They still need to be able to perform to a high standard in terms of athleticism, They are looking for candidates who will not give up, who can think and strive under pressure; Candidates who pay close attention to details and who are mentally resilient, resistant to stress and come with emotional maturity. They want candidates who have great motivation to serve.
